Functional Assessments

Are you looking to access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)? Our functional assessment services help people access the NDIS by giving further information and evidence as to why a person may need support.

Areas assessed include communication, social interaction, learning, mobility and self-care, as well as information about the individual’s goals and aspirations.

Following the assessment, we provide a comprehensive report that outlines the amount of assistance a person needs to participate in activities, with equipment, home modifications or assistance from others.

Autism Diagnostic Assessments

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or autism, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects three main areas of an individual’s life: communication, social interaction and repetitive and restricted behaviours. Roughly one in every 88 people has autism and it is more common in boys than girls.

An autism assessment helps determine whether an individual meets the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and provides information about their presentation and support needs.

As members of the WA Autism Diagnosticians’ Forum, our highly experienced speech pathologists and psychologists provide the gold standard in autism assessments, with expert follow-up support provided.

Our autism assessment services

Developmental Assessments

Our experienced speech pathologists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists conduct assessments in key developmental areas to help with the planning of supports and strategies for your child’s development.

Our therapists can provide comprehensive assessments across a range of developmental areas, or targeted assessments in specific areas such as speech and language, or fine motor and sensory skills.

Our assessments are conducted over 1-2 sessions at a office location close to you. The assessment process generally includes:

• A questionnaire completed by the parent/support person
• Discussion regarding your child’s medical and developmental history
• Standardised testing appropriate to the child’s age and abilities
• Therapist observation, play and interaction
• Liaison with other professionals involved in your child’s care.

A comprehensive report including recommendations for next steps and clear explanation of results is provided following assessment. The results can help parents, carers and teachers provide appropriate and tailored programs to maximise a child’s developmental potential. If the results include diagnosis of a learning difficulty or disability, this can help with accessing funding to provide supports in the home and school environment to accommodate your child’s needs.

Language Development Centre Assessments

Language Development Centres are schools that provide intensive speech and language support to young children, where the child has a primary language impairment.

We offer comprehensive assessment by speech pathologists that address the referral requirements for each of kindergarten, pre-primary and Year 1 classes at Language Development Centres.

Accessing our assessment services

We’re a registered service provider for the Australian Government’s Helping Children with Autism Program and Better Start Initiative. We can provide Medicare rebate services under the Helping Children with Autism Program Increased Access to Diagnosis items, the Helping Children with Autism Treatment Plan and a Chronic Disease Management Plan (formerly Enhanced Primary Care Plan).

To claim a Medicare rebate we need an eligible referral from your GP or Paediatrician prior to assessment. As we do not bulk bill our services, there will be a gap payment payable. You will need to pay your account in full and then claim from Medicare.

Health insurance rebates may also apply for our services. Please contact your private health insurer for more information. On the spot rebates via HICAPS are offered in selected office locations for your convenience.
